Review – Air Awakens by: Elise Kova

A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world.

Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

Wonderful wind-whipping start to what I’m sure will be a high-stakes series. The fantasy element, bravery, romance, and slew of amazing characters wrapped this book up into a brilliant start to the series.

The world building is wonderful and I feel we only saw the tip of the iceberg in this fantastic world. I am super excited to travel to other territories and see more of the lands as Vhalla and Co. do.

With our protagonist I will say, I found myself having trouble connecting to the writing at times. It seems too “young” to me. I get that Vhalla is coming into her powers but with her being 18 I think I was expecting her to be a bit less naive. On the other side, I thoroughly enjoyed Prince Baldair he definitely was the golden boy in my eyes and I hope he makes appearances in future books. Prince Aldrik was another beast entirely. I kept going back and forth in my trust for him and his brooding ways. I guess time will tell.

Overall, I thought it was a wonderful start to this series and I’m very excited to see where it leads to!
