Jesse James is a normal eighteen-year-old, even if her parents are the best faerie bounty hunters in New York. Jesse’s only concern is how to pay for college, but that changes the night her parents disappear.
Equipped with her parents’ weapons and her own smarts, Jesse enters the dangerous world of bounty hunting in search of her mother and father. In her quest, she encounters all manner of Fae, but the scariest is Lukas, the mysterious, imposing faerie who offers to help her find her parents.
But there are powerful forces at work, and Jesse is about to become a player in a dangerous game that could decide the fate of everyone she loves. In this world of magic and deception, it’s hard to tell her allies from her enemies in the race to find her parents before their time runs out.

“‘I was right,’ he said roughly. ‘You are very dangerous, Jesse James.'”

I crushed this book in a day! Absolutely loved everything about Pawn. The setting being in NYC made for the perfect backdrop of this adventurous story. Karen Lynch weaves everything so seamlessly in Pawn and I could not have been happier with this story.
Everything about Jesse, our protagonist, is admirable. She’s intelligent, cunning, family-oriented, responsible… and the list could go on. I have nothing but good things to say about her. Her will to fight for her family above all else was everything for me.
Next, I love love loved our slew of side characters. First off, Violet is the most fabulous best friend. There is so much amazing banter between these two and yet such a tight friendship. I found myself highlighting so many snippets of their conversation because it was hilarious and real. Like below:
“Violet pouted. ‘But I like him.’
I shot her a sideways look. ‘Um, are you forgetting that you like girls?’
‘I said I like him, not that I’d do him.’ She sank back in her seat. ‘You’re no fun.'”

I of course also loved all of our fellas. Conlan definitely is a standout with his kind regards and willingness to see the best. Then, Faolin who you just love because the moments between him and Jesse are hilarious. Finally, Lukas. First off, I love the name Lukas and that spelling… so solid win right there. However his brooding protectiveness was way to easy fall for. I cannot wait to see more of him in future books.
Also, I loved the world-building. The fact that faerie is not just some separate world but intertwined into our society. It was really cool to see and a world I almost wished I lived in… for real though.
Absolutely cannot wait to see where this story line goes. Karen Lynch created perfect thrills around every turn, perfectly intertwined all of our character, and I am super excited to read Knight!
