The final installment to the Cat and Mouse Duet…
The Diamond
Death walks alongside me,
But the reaper is no match for me.
I’m trapped in a world full of monsters dressed as men, and those who aren’t as they seem.
They won’t keep me forever.
I no longer recognize the person I’ve become,
And I’m fighting to find my way back to the beast who hunts me in the night.
They call me a diamond,
But they’ve only created an angel of death.
The Hunter
I was born a predator,
With ruthlessness ingrained in my bones.
When what’s mine is stolen from me in the night,
Like a diamond hidden within a fortress,
I find that I can no longer contain the beast.
Blood will paint the ground as I tear apart this world to find her.
And bring her back to where she belongs.
No one will escape my wrath,
Especially not those who have betrayed me.
Warning: This is the second and final installment to the Duet. You must read Haunting Adeline first.

“You will always be the little mouse, and I will always hunt you. I’ll patiently wait until you’re ready for me to touch you, but make no mistake, Adeline, it’ll still hurt when I do.”
Hunting Adeline is not for the faint of heart. I originally thought Haunting was the darkest of darks… but I was wrong. Hunting surpasses it by a mile. I said Haunting Adeline was pitch black, but Hunting Adeline is like the depths of the darkest hole you could find yourself crawling into. After the previous ending I went into it expecting an emotional, dark ride… but phew was this one just gut-wrenching.
Brace yourself for the first 50% of this book because holy heck. I knew what to expect coming into the book, but the pure haunting and defiling details H.D. Carlton gives you it something else. She holds nothing back at the expense of these characters. She made sure we felt every bit of pain reading through this and I cringed so many times.
Zade would be looking for me by now. Most likely out of his mind and on a rampage… Jesus, he’s probably going to kill a lot of people. No, he definitely is. And when a grin begins to form, I know that man has well and truly corrupted me.
My love for Zade Meadows though only grew tenfold in this installment. He is every bit as fierce, protective, and animalistic as he was in the first, and man, I love him and Adeline together. I also have to shout out to Sibby as a side character. I really liked her character in this one… she was crazy but fun.
Overall, I absolutely am obsessed with this series. I know it is dark and horrific, but it makes you feel SO many things. It was such a constant emotional thrill-ride and I cannot wait to see what else H.D. Carlton has up her bookish sleeves.
