When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, they must face the depths of hell, in a war among gods, to seal their fate forever.
After centuries of sleep, the gods are warring again. But eighteen-year-old Iris Winnow just wants to hold her family together. Her mother is suffering from addiction and her brother is missing from the front lines. Her best bet is to win the columnist promotion at the Oath Gazette.
To combat her worries, Iris writes letters to her brother and slips them beneath her wardrobe door, where they vanish—into the hands of Roman Kitt, her cold and handsome rival at the paper. When he anonymously writes Iris back, the two of them forge a connection that will follow Iris all the way to the front lines of battle: for her brother, the fate of mankind, and love.
Shadow and Bone meets Lore in Rebecca Ross’s Divine Rivals, an epic enemies-to-lovers fantasy novel filled with hope and heartbreak, and the unparalleled power of love.

“But I think there is a magical link between you and me. A bond that not even distance can break.”

Just utterly heartbreaking and yet so beautiful at the same time. Divine Rivals is a perfect woven masterpiece that I kept thinking about for days after. And am still constantly thinking about.
So much story happens in the first 30% of the story. It grasps your attention unlike any other. Plus, the writing is absolutely beyond perfect. Rebecca’s way with words is just exquisite. It is not just detail-inducing but also beautiful. For example:
“It was eventide, the moment between darkness and light, when the constellations began to dust the sky and the city lamps flickered to life in reply.“

We also get to see the story from both Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt’s eyes and I loved that about this book. You are literally just breathing in hope and waiting for Winnow and Kitt to collide. And in every scene they do, magic soars through the pages and I just loved watching their otherworldly connection.
The tale, the magic, the backstory, the world that Rebecca builds in this book is nothing short of perfection. I could not get enough of each new place and character we meet along the way. Plus, that ending is literally a bombshell in more ways than one. I was slightly excited yet also devastated. I absolutely cannot wait until DECEMBER (yay moved up!) to continue this beautifully written story and gosh do I hope for the best for Kitt and Winnow.
