Review – Hopeless by: Colleen Hoover

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

I’m scared it’s the last time I’ll ever feel anything, because he’s the only one I’ve ever wanted to feel anything with.”

Phew, Colleen Hoover books never cease to amaze me. Each has their own tragic tale weaved in throughout and it is so easy to devour in minutes. Hopeless is no exception. It is a romantic explosion of feelings that forever has you turning the pages.

Our MC, Sky, you can tell has had a very sheltered, but great life for the past thirteen years. She has her best friend, her mom, her homeschooling, and running. However, you can tell she has never been quite perfectly happy.

Enter Dean Holder.

“Fuck all the firsts, Sky. The only thing that matters to me with you are the forevers.”
Hoover, Colleen. Hopeless (p. 317). Atria Books. Kindle Edition.

Dean Holder is everything in Hopeless. Not only is he an amazing boyfriend but he also an amazing friend, brother, son, and everything in between. I adored watching Sky and Holder collide in Hopeless. Their relationship is one where as soon as they meet on the page, you just know it’s fate and written in the stars. I could not get enough of them together.

Although there is a big romance feature, do not let that fool you into thinking that this book wouldn’t have the classic CoHo twists and tragedies… because Hopeless is not lacking in that department at all. Parts of this book were so gut-wrenching and I felt so horrible for our characters.

Definitely another 5 star read from CoHo and I cannot wait to continue to read this “series” from Holder’s POV.
