Welcome to the First Annual “Trick or Treat” Blog Tour hosted by Moonlit Reads!
This tour is the first to come of many. It takes place during the last 13 days of October leading up to Halloween Day. Trick or treat along the tour finding giveaways, interviews, blurbs, and more! You can find the start of the tour and its schedule here!
Now, let the spooky begin!

I am so excited to be a part of this tour! I love Halloween, and am so excited to be slowly getting back into the book world. It’s been way too long!

Today, I was lucky enough to get to interview Shannon M. Parker who wrote The Rattled Bones. PLUS, I even scored an interview with Rilla from the story! This stop is definitely a TREAT on the tour and if you’re lucky there may even be a giveaway… BOO!

Hi Rilla! I am so excited to have you here today! So, it’s Halloween, what do you dress up as? Have any parties planned?

So…I’m being haunted by a ghost who scratches messages into my windowsill and sings to me from the sea. Every day is scary so I’ll pass on Halloween or parties. 


You live in Maine, what is your favorite spot to go to? What do you do there? I absolutely love Acadia State Park!

My favorite place to be is on my lobster boat, hauling traps from the Gulf of Maine. It’s the work my family’s done for generations, though I’m the first girl to take the helm.  


It seems like you have a love for the ocean, what draws you to the sea? Personally, the beach is my happy place.

The ocean is another world. With its own temperament. I was taught to respect the sea and her changing will, all while drawing up food from the depths, feeding my family. But nothing beats watching the length of a fin whale rise alongside my boat, or racing a pod of dolphins through the open channel.

Hi Shannon! I’m so happy to have you here today. Your book The Rattled Bones has an eerie premise to it. Do you enjoy anything horror? Why did you decide to go that route?

I’m a big fan of being scared by stories—either written or told around a campfire. Gruesome horror isn’t for me, but I’ll curl up with any book that makes my skin shiver when shadows dart across the room! In The Rattled Bones, my contemporary protagonist is forced to deal with unsettling issues from the past—and her family’s suspected role in the horrors—so I needed a way to bridge today with a hundred years ago. Insert the haunting 🙂 


In your bio, it says you’ve traveled to over three dozen countries. Which one was your favorite and why? Pictures to make me jealous is always welcome, too. 🙂

HELD A KOALA?? Yep, you’re winning for sure! …In the book The Rattle Bones it seems to have a focus on the ocean and an island, do you have a love for the sea as your character Rilla does?

I do! The ocean is my home. I live on the coast of the bold Atlantic and my favorite thing to do is kayak to an island populated only by trees and seabirds. Or dive into a crashing wave. 


*sigh* Me too, I love the ocean and hope to move closer to it one day. Alright, fun question! If you could dress up as ANYTHING for Halloween, no cost, no limitations, what would you be?

Six-year-old me. Just to remember what it was like to believe that anything (and everything) was possible. And magical.
