Review – Darkness of Light by: Stacey Marie Brown

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

There are some times when I’m unsure of what I want to read next, so I browse goodreads and amazon, and this time around I stumbled upon Darkness of Light. So I did what all us good bloggers do, I ran to goodreads and saw that the rating was fantastic and none of my friends have reviewed it, but I took a chance anyway. Let me tell you, I am SO glad I did because I absolutely loved this book! Once I got about 15% in, I could not put it down… I stayed up until 2:30am on a work night to finish! Yeah… just that damn good.

With Ember Brycin, I liked her as soon as we meet her. She’s different and I don’t mean as in just a loner, but she has two different color eyes, hair with red streaks and guess what, she absolutely doesn’t care and I absolutely loved that about her. She definitely doesn’t take anyone’s crap and I could just bow down to her for it. Her relationship with Mark, I just adored too. I loved their easy banter and how close they were even though he’s her stepdad.

On our boy radar is Eli Dragen. Unf. Two words: green eyes. That basically sells me. Oh, but wait, he’s extremely tall (more hot points), shaggy hair, super protective, motorcycle, and well he’s definitely a smart a$$… all of which well are panty droppers. I adored Eli and from what I have seen in book one between Eli and Torin… Team Eli all the way! He is just hot, hot, hot sauce!

It was nice that this was a NA book as well, yet it still involved school in a way which I adored. With that, the concept just kept me hanging on the whole way through. I kept guessing and assuming I knew what Ember was but I was anxious just along with our protagonist.

I had so many questions at the end… Like I cannot wait to see what happens with Torin, as I’m sure I am about to get a love triangle. I also think there’s more to Kennedy then we see. I want to know what her tattoo means, eek, I love tattoos! I just cannot wait to jump into book two. If you are considering this book at all, do it! It’s sexy, and fun, and so dark that it’s right. I absolutely loved it!
