Override by: Heather Anastasiu

Synopsis: Zoe is free. She has escaped the enslavement of the Community, disconnected from the hardware that had controlled her every thought and emotion, and evaded capture by the Chancellor intent on killing her. She is finally free, but she is far from safe.

Zoe and Adrien hide themselves from detection at the Foundation, an academy that trains teen glitchers to fight in the Resistance movement. Together, Zoe and her new team of superhuman fighters must risk their lives to rescue other glitchers and humans from the Chancellor’s control. Challenges abound at every turn, and Adrien, who has become silent, distant, and tormented by his visions of the future, only adds to the growing certainty of defeat. But worst of all, as Zoe’s team fights against impossible odds, distrust and betrayal leads to the terrible discovery that their greatest threat could already be lurking behind the safe walls of the Foundation.

Full of high-adrenaline action and shocking twists, Heather Anastasiu’s Override is an exciting continuation of this popular young adult trilogy.

Thoughts: The second book in the Glitch series blew me away. You start finding yourself right back in the world you loved and feared for and then by the end you’re begging for the third book. Everything is at risk in Override… family, love, glitchers, friends, and even yourself.

“I do not feel anything.”

This quote unraveled my soul. It not only was one of my favorite quotes in the book but it hit home for me so hard, which is another reason why I think I loved it so much. I say those words to myself so often, but I never thought a book would hurt me with them. And, my heart was definitely aching at this particular scene.

With Override we even get a fresh set of characters that I find myself absolutely loving. Ginny probably one of my favorites. She’s so outspoken and hilarious. She actually reminded me a lot of a young kid… the ones who say whatever they want without any shame, yet you still love them regardless. I cannot wait to see more of Ginny in the future. And, I loved getting to know Cole. Cole is one of those quiet, but deadly characters that you want to crawl inside his head and see what goes on inside his head. One of those characters I wanted to hug and love.

Even with the new characters, our main ones are still there in full glory. Zoe, who I completely admire because she grows so strong into her power through out this book and gets thrown so many curve balls and yet she constantly stays strong and keeps going. Then on the other side of Zoe is Adrien. The boy who I love his name and his bright eyes. He’s so plagued by so many things in Override and there were so many times where I wanted to hug him so hard. I absolutely love Adrien as a love interest and a character and I NEED so much more of him in book three. And, I won’t spoil anything but there’s another character from book one who may or may not make an appearance again and I was pretty happy about it!

The ending of this book is definitely one of those killers where you find yourself screaming “NO!”, “WHAT!”, “WHY?”. There were also a few twists I was definitely not expecting at all, and I absolutely love when an author can keep me hanging onto my seat and then completely take me by surprise. I honestly couldn’t flip these pages quick enough and now I need to find a Glitcher who can some how get me book three because I need it yesterday!
