Authors ARE Rockstars Tour: Kate Avelynn

_____
Kate Avelynn. Where do I even start? I really love her name… It flows nicely and is super pretty isn’t it?!  Well, many of you probably don’t even know who she is… But you should! And believe me you will eventually be falling in love with her books, I just know it! Kate is also one of my queens of the best club in the world, aka the Dark Darlings.
 (clicky on the picture!)
Basically it’s only the coolest group of darlings ever. We basically like dark books. Twisted books. Books that hurt our heart and our minds. Books with words so beautiful they’re basically razors to our souls. And Kate, is one of those amazing leaders. And her book… I just KNOW will be like razors on my heart and soul. Something that I will absolutely adore but will also tear me to pieces and honestly… I cannot wait.
Speaking of her book, this amazing book that I’ve only seen snippets of but knew instantly that I was in love with it? Is called FLAWED. Here’s some details:
FLAWED
by Kate Avelynn
Young Adult
Entangled Teen, October 2012
ISBN 13: 978-1-62061-232-3
Synopsis: Sarah O’Brien is alive because of the pact she and her brother made twelve years ago—James will protect her from their violent father if she promises to never leave him. For years, she’s watched James destroy his life to save hers. If all he asks for in return is her affection, she’ll give it freely.
Until, with a tiny kiss and a broken mind, he asks for more than she can give.
Sam Donavon has been James’s best friend—and the boy Sarah’s had a crush on—for as long as she can remember. As their forbidden relationship deepens, Sarah knows she’s in trouble. Quiet, serious Sam has decided he’s going to save her. Neither of them realize James is far more unstable than her father ever was, or that he’s not about to let Sarah forget her half of the pact…
So basically that cover… is perfect. It’s so eerie, yet beautiful. Almost bittersweet. A wishy.. something that gives you hope is half destroyed.  Plus the all black and the red terrifying letters. Just a cover MADE of win. But if Kate’s cover and synopsis doesn’t make her a Rock Star (which they totally do) her play list TOTALLY does. She’s into brilliant music. Don’t believe me? Well… GO HERE.. and listen to the playlist! The song “Lies” is my favorite and it’s pure brilliance. I love Kate’s mind too much.
Another reason Kate is my Rock Star is because she inspires me to go outside my house in front of who knows who and take pictures like these:
Why did I do this you may ask? Well Kate is SO freaken awesome that she sent me all this swag just because and it looked like this:
So OF COURSE I fell in love with the swag SO HARD that I had to make my own version of it. And yes, I’ve already worn the Tattoos and the dog tag. I love them SO hard.
Overall, even though I have yet to read her book… it really doesn’t matter. Kate Avelynn is already a Rock Star to me. She’s easy to talk to and oh so sweet in every e-mail or tweet I receive from her. Every excerpt I’ve ever read of Flawed just completely made me fall in love with her writing and already her story. When I tell people I love to read dark, and twisted books… I think sometimes they think I’m crazy. Or that my brain and heart is some place that there’s isn’t… and maybe it is. But Kate is one of the people that understands what my love of heart breaking books is all about. She wrote a book like that. And I honestly cannot. WAIT. To. Read. It.
Basically I adore Kate Avelynn already. She is already a Rock Star to me. An author who I’ve gotten close to in a short period of time before her book even hit shelves. And, I’m positive I will be raving like crazy about her book when it finally releases.

– Kate’s Inspiration Post –

Thank you for having me here today, Jena!

When I talk to people about FLAWED, I’m always asked why I write about
dark stuff. People think authors are strange enough without me answering
honestly—that I love villains way more than I probably should—so I
usually just shrug and smile.

Now that I’ve slapped on a nametag that says, “Hello, I’m Kate.
No, I’m not crazy,” I’ll try to explain why loving villains is a
good thing. Have you ever read a book where you wound up rooting for the
bad guy because you totally get why they’re doing what they’re
doing? Or because they’re so deliciously broken you want to reach into
the book and fix them? I _love_reading about villains who have the best
intentions in the world, but carry them out in all the wrong ways. I
love it because I_get_ it. It’s so easy to make the wrong decision
when you think you’ve made the right one, and we all know how quickly
one bad decision can spiral your life into chaos. Books with complex
villains are always heartbreaking reads because the bad guy never wins,
no matter how good their intentions. No matter how badly I want them to
win.

Characters who’ve made bad decisions and lost control of their lives
are the “why” of FLAWED. I wanted to explore how love, of all
things, can lead a person down a dark and twisted path, and how
misplaced loyalty can destroy a person. While the story is told entirely
from Sarah’s point of view, this is James’ story for me. The
traumatic experiences he shares with his sister have warped his mind and
poisoned his ability to protect her from the very thing he’s
become—but he doesn’t see it. And while he’s the “villain” and
does horrific things in the name of love, James is has been Sarah’s
protector, their sole provider, and her emotional and physical rock
since they were kids. I hope reader get him, and that they maybe even
fall in love with him a little bit like Sarah and I have.

Shortie Says: SEE PEOPLE…. SEE! SHE UNDERSTANDS. This. This is how I feel too! No matter how much I want the bad guy to win, he never ever does. And, I love deliciously broken characters because I do want to reach right into the pages and help them… fix them.

– The Author –

Kate’s Bio: Kate Avelynn lives in Central Oregon with her husband, whom she fell in
love with at eighteen after realizing he shared her obsession with
music, sports, and psychoanalysis. When not devouring Stephanie Perkins
and Jennifer Echols novels, holding down her editing gig, or attempting
to coax life out of the weed patch she calls a “garden,” Kate writes
dark, young adult romance that blends first love, betrayal, and
danger. FLAWED [1] is her debut novel.

Plus here’s some fun facts I pulled off of her website. Because I may or may not slightly stalk her… 😉

  1. I met/fell in love with Resident Hottie when I was eighteen. He took me to see Phantom of the Opera, then followed it up with a dinner of Wendy’s frosties and french fries in the middle of a park at midnight. Effective, cheap, and only mildly terrifying once I got past the Rodents of Unusual Size (okay, so they were nutria) that come out at night. Who says teens can’t find true love?
  2. I collects pens, notebooks, and binder clips. Not intentionally, but they’re all over the house anyway. My grandmother once sent me eighty pens and a dozen three-subject spiral notebooks for Christmas. Best. Gift. Ever.
(I collect pens too! Pens and sharpies!)
  3. I may have the world’s largest collection of mismatched knee socks and arm warmers. I’m not sure why one of every pair disappears or where they’re going, but wearing things that match screws with my creativity, so it’s probably for the best.
  4. Before Titanic came out and gave me an irrational fear of sinking boats, I wanted to be a marine biologist. Obsessed over the Scripps Institute of Oceanography summer program for teens and everything. Since then, I’ve considered careers in genetics, photography, film editing, psychology, music, hockey groupie, and whatever you call those girls that squirt water in the college football players’ mouths during the game. I’ve only accomplished two of these so far, but don’t count me out. I’m tenacious.
