Theme Song Thursday #2

So this week I’ve decided to do Hushed by: Kelley York. This book is absolutely amazing, and twisted, and pure perfection. If you’d like to read my review you can find that HERE.
Now, this book was insanely hard for me to choose one theme song for… so I didn’t. I honestly could probably create a whole playlist for this book. Because I like dark music. And this book is quite dark in its own way. So I picked a few songs… and I’ll explain lyrics/sound wise, etc. why I picked them! So enjoy! 🙂
__________________________
Okay, so the first song I like for Hushed is a cliche one, because it’s called “Archers” by: Brand New. I say cliche because if you’d read the book (or the synopsis) the main character’s name is Archer.
Here’s why I like it:
“What did you learn tonight?
You’re shouting so loud, you barely enjoy this broken thing.
You’re a voice that never sings, that’s what i say.
You are freezing over hell,
You are bringing on the end, you do so well
you can only blame yourself, that’s what I say.”
– I like those lyrics for Archer in particular. Because he is somewhat broken, and the things he does he can only blame himself for.
I also like:
There is an ember in the heart of this kiln
and it’s burning hot with love.
Burning out my sins till there’s nothing but dust
then rolling me with care into your cigarette.”
“Burning out my sins till there’s nothing but dust” I totally think of Archer and Evan.
________
The next song is one of my favorites and it’s perfect for this book. It’s called “Stupid Girl” by Framing Hanley.
Here’s why I like it:
I’m going to post ALL the lyrics. Because they are all kind of PERFECT for this book.

“Feels like the walls are closing in on me
I’m suffocating, I can barely breathe
And you’ve got me right where you want me

This is the side of you I’ve never seen
You’re not the girl that you used to be
And you’ve got me right where you want me

You always know, how to bring me down
Let’s just face it now, I’m never changin’

You are my world, my everything
You stupid girl, you’re gonna be the death of me
So let me go, just let me be
You stupid girl, I love the way you’re killing me
(killing me)
You stupid girl

You’re like an angel but with broken wings
A heart so cold can never show mercy
And you’ve got me right where you want me

You are my world, my everything
You stupid girl, you’re gonna be the death of me
So let me go, just let me be
You stupid girl, I love the way you’re killing me
(killing me)
You stupid girl (killing me)
You stupid girl

I know I’m a bastard, I’m not a coward
Why can’t you see what you’re doin’ to me?
I’m falling faster, more every hour
Why can’t you see what you’re doin’ to me?

Open your eyes, open your eyes

This is killing me.”

These lyrics are SO perfect for Vivian and Archer’s relation. Archer has always loved Vivian and will do anything for her. And, it is killing him. He’s making choices he’d never thought he would, but he does them for Vivian even though she uses him. And she has no idea what she’s doing to him.
________
This next one is called “Paper Lung” by Underoath. And I like the sound of it… eerie and impacting. Plus these few lyrics make me think of Archer and how he carries a lot of Vivian’s pain.
“It’s too late to pry away.
But it’s hard to hear me when you’re sinking

Swim here, I wanna see you,
Wash it down, wash it down.

How can you sleep here? I bear the weight of your world
I don’t believe in a single word you sold to me.

I bear your burden, for the last time,
I swear I’m done with all of this.

It’s too late, to pry you away from the undertow,
I watch it take you, then I walk away.”

___________
This next song is a classic. I adore this song. And yet again it’s another song where I think the whole song is perfect for Archer’s Situation. It’s Faint by: Linkin Park

I am a little bit of loneliness a little bit of disregard
Handful of complaints but I can’t help the fact that everyone can see these scars
I am what I want you to want what I want you to feel
But it’s like no matter what I do, I can’t convince you, to just believe this is real
So I let go, watching you, turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here ’cause you’re all that I got

I can’t feel the way I did before
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t change this damage anymore
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

I am a little bit insecure a little unconfident
Cause you don’t understand I do what I can but sometimes I don’t make sense
I am what you never wanna say but I’ve never had a doubt
It’s like no matter what I do I can’t convince you for once just to hear me out
So I let go watching you turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here ’cause you’re all that I’ve got.

______________
I wanted to throw one in that still has a dark feel to it. But, makes me think if Evan. And it’s another classic which is Bring Me To Life by: Evanescence. And ironically… the band has the name “Evan” in it! HA!
“Save me from the nothing I’ve become.”
_______________
And this final one… I adore the feeling and the sound it gives off. I also imagine hearing this song for a scene towards the end of the book. One that’s a game changer. A scene that’s pretty dark.
Damien Rice – 9 crimes
_____________
So what do you think? Do you agree with me if you’ve read the book? Do you like the songs? Do you have any thoughts of your own… any other song suggestions for the book. Or why you like the lyrics of this song for the book?
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
