Destined Blog Tour

Special thanks to Dee from Good Choice Reading!

Welcome to my stop on the Destined tour!! Want to get into the main character’s head a little? Well Psyche is here for a guest post! Plus, there’s a chance to win an E-book copy of Destined!

– The Book –

Synopsis: When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she’s come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

– The Author –

Pulled from Jessie’s Blog: “That’s me. I’m a wife, mom of 2, an appellate attorney and aspiring YA author. My first novel, DESTINED, a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Cupid & Psyche, comes out November 17th. I’ve also co-authored a present day paranormal romance, titled BENEATH THE SURFACE, that we hope to find a home for soon.”

Psyche’s guest post [with interjections from, Jessie Harrell, the DESTINED author]

Hi everyone! I’m really excited that I get to do a guest post today. I mean, DESTINED is my story and all, but I don’t get to talk much outside of the book. So it’s exciting to be here and tell you what’s on my mind.

[A word of disclosure from Jessie – if you’re unfamiliar with the Cupid & Psyche myth, Psyche’s rant might not be entirely clear to you. She tends to assume everyone knows her story like they’d lived it.]

*rolls eyes* Anyway, here’s some things I’m just dying to gossip about (and Eros is probably sick of me talking about it already). So here goes – Jessie actually told my story correctly and I can’t believe it took THOUSANDS of years for someone to listen to me long enough to get it right. Can I just tell you how mad Lucius Apuleius’ version made me??? And everyone just swoons over it. Oh, isn’t it romantic how Cupid falls for Psyche even after all the dumb crap she pulls? NO! Ugh.

[Actually, I always thought the myth was pretty romantic myself. But you might have a point.]

Of course I have a point! Ok, for starters, Apuleius couldn’t have made me much dumber. Like pretty girls can only have air between their ears? Don’t even get me started. I may have made a few bad decisions along the way, but it wasn’t out of stupidity – in fact, it was probably the opposite. When you over-think things, situations can go downhill fast.

Then there’s all the magical talking animal and plant stuff Apuleius threw in. Like I couldn’t sort a few grains of rice and stuff without ants doing the work for me? ANTS!!! And then some talking river weeds had to save my butt from being eaten by fire-snorting rams? I don’t think so. I mean, I needed some help, but it wasn’t from inanimate objects. Poor Alexa. She’s been completely cut out of the story all these centuries. I’m so glad she’s finally getting the credit she deserves.

[Side note: Alexa is Psyche’s BFF and also a nymph who stays invisible around Psyche so neither of them will wind up with bad luck. It’s sort of funny watching Psyche talk to air all the time. It makes her look like she’s lost it.]

No more than you look like you’ve lost it talking to me.

And finally, for the record, I only had one sister and Eros did not kill her. I mean, seriously? Would you kill the sister of someone you loved? That doesn’t get you any brownie points. The whole idea is sick and gives Greek tragedy a bad name.

[It is called tragedy for a reason.]

*ignores Jessie.* So as you can see, Apuleius’s version is more fantasy than reality. More Snow White meets Cinderella meets Nightmare Before Christmas than the truth.

[Hence, why it’s call a myth.]

Gah. She thinks she’s so smart. I’m sure Apuleius would’ve had some choice words to describe her back in the day.

Anyway, I hope you like the real version of my story. I can’t wait to share it with you.
